Required valuesConnect the share

Use an SMB source for backups stored on a Windows-compatible network share.

Required values

FieldMeaning
DomainDNS host name of the SMB server
PortPort on which the SMB service is reachable
ShareShare name containing the backup files
SecretActive SMB secret metadata

The SMB Kubernetes Secret must contain RT_SOURCE_USERNAME and RT_SOURCE_PASSWORD.

Connect the share

  1. 1

    Prepare a restricted account

Give the account permission to list and read only the required share and directories. Avoid write, rename, and delete permissions.

  2. 2

    Create and register the Secret

Add the required username and password keys to a Kubernetes Secret in every selected worker's job namespace. Register matching SMB secret metadata in the project.

  3. 3

    Create the SMB source

Open Sources, choose SMB, and enter the server host, port, and share name. Select the active SMB secret metadata.

  4. 4

    Test the backup path

Create a schedule with a path inside the share and run it manually. Use / as the path separator in RestoreTrust, even if the source is normally accessed from Windows.

Share and path are separate

Enter only the share name on the source. Enter folders and the filename pattern on the schedule. Do not include a Windows drive letter or UNC server prefix in the schedule path.

If selection fails, verify the account can list the directory, the share name is correct, and the project worker can resolve and reach the SMB host.

SMB DFS namespaces and referrals are not supported. Configure the direct server host and share; a path that redirects the worker to another SMB host can fail.

See Schedules for latest-file selection, date variables, and age or size criteria.
